The 75th Birthday Celebration/Al-Anon Founder's Day on May 30 is fast approaching. All the information about it is posted on the Events page and it is quite simple to register. You may register on site, but if not registered by May 20 they will not be able to provide you with a lunch. Please contact Linda R at lfradigan@gmail.com if you have persons in your group who would like to carpool.
District 1 Announcements for Family Groups
At the May 9, 2026 District 1 Business meeting, members discussed the following important recovery and service opportunities occurring before our next Business Meeting on July 11. We hope these announcements might attract further participation.
Newcomers’ AFG Meeting, Fridays 7:00 PM, Tallahassee Senior Center, First Floor Activity Room,1400 N. Monroe St. Tallahassee. Kathy D., GR for this group, will soon be moving to her new home in Kentucky. The group is preparing for her departure by planning how to share the many responsibilities that Kathy took on. For the next few months, other AFGs are invited to provide occasional “guest chairs.” Please reach out to Kathy D. (850) 508-1863 soon for any offers of assistance!
As of April 17, an Alateen meeting is now available Fridays at 6:00pm, Echo Ministries, 548 E. Bradford Road Tallahassee, FL. A new Alateen flyer has been approved for distribution through the Peach Jar electronic distribution program used by Leon County Schools for free. Using the Peachjar e-flyer program, e-flyers are sent directly to parents’ email inboxes as well as posted on school websites for easy access. We discussed the need for one last BIG SHARE at group meetings about the recovery value for AL-ANON & AA members attending this landmark event. This event is flying in 4 top-notch speakers from around the country, 3 Al-Anon and 1 AA. The planning committee is extending the May 10 pre-registration period for those who are interested in having a box lunch. Our district is contributing a raffle basket and is organizing a carpool caravan. Each group is asked to compile a carpool list (name and phone number) to share with Linda R. Event Committee Chair, (850) 321-1492, no later than May 24.
June 5, 4:00 PM – June 7, 1:00 PM No. Florida Area Spring Assembly (Virtual-Zoom) Look behind the curtain at the service work that sustains our recovery in Al-Anon. There is no cost to attend. Registration for Area 9 Florida North's Spring 2026 Assembly is now open. This is each Group’s opportunity to hear the latest news from the most recent World Service Conference, updates on our imminent 2026 Area Convention and Area Service Workshop, information from our Area’s full panel of Coordinators, and more. Anyone listed with Area 9 as a GR, CMA, or Group email contact should have received the registration e-mail. June 12-14, Founders’ Day Florida Style (Intergroup 5 of AA) Tallahassee Automobile Museum. Al-Anon members can find information about this event and register at https://www.foundersdayflorida.org/, cost is $30.In the spirit of on-going cooperation, this event provides an Al-Anon speaker in addition to Alcoholics Anonymous speaker. District 1 contributes a raffle basket and an Al-Anon literature table. We need Al-Anon members to staff the table for literature, sales and to answer any questions. The District will reimburse the registration fee for any member who volunteers for this important service and opportunity to share recovery with AA members. June 27, 1:30-3:30, District 1 Public Outreach Committee Meeting, St. Stephens Luthern Church, 2198 N. Meridian Road Tallahassee. All members are invited and welcome. The public outreach committee submitted a report for its meeting on April 24th. They continue to gather information and ideas for public outreach efforts. They are especially focused on how to broaden the availability of Al-Anon and Alateen meetings through collaboration with AA groups, especially AA groups that meet in AA clubhouses where members sometimes bring children to meetings. At the next meeting, AA members are invited to attend to help brainstorm ideas for collaboration. Laurie W. is spearheading the creation of the raffle basket creation for Founders’ Day (AA) which the district will provide funds for. The 2026‑2029 editions of the Al‑Anon/Alateen Service Manual (P‑24/27) and 2026-2029 Al-Anon/Alateen Groups at Work (P24) are now available at: https://al-anon.org/for-members. These can be downloaded, used electronically or ordered as hard copies. One hard copy for each group and district trusted servants have been ordered by our Literature Coordinator, Carol B. (850) 728-7795.
July 25, 10:00-12:00, Special Topic Meeting “Finding and Strengthening Self-Compassion and Forgiveness” Hope for Today AFG will develop and chair. Event committee chair will reach out to Hope for Today to offer any support needed from the committee.
August 28-30, 2026, 2026 Area 9 Convention, Radisson Resort at the Port, Cape Canaveral, FL. Each group should continue to collect donations at AFG meetings to fund the District 1 raffle for help with expenses to attend this annual convention. Funds raised should be given to Adria C, Treasurer, (850) 544-1889. Raffle tickets will be for sale at District 1 AFG meetings beginning in June, after the Spring Assembly. Drawing for the winner will be at the July 25 Special Topic Meeting.
